Tensira Black Tie & Dye Cushion
One for the monochrome lovers! Timeless. Classic. And filled with endless styling possibilities - from subdued to statement making.
Handcrafted from hand spun cotton and plant-based dyes, this cushion brings the tie-dye counterculture movement home in the chicest way possible. Play it up with other crudo and black favorites for the perfect monochrome cushion stack or use it to disrupt and ground a pop of color in your interior.
Woven on a foot loom, this cushion is handcrafted using traditional West-African tie-and-dye method, whereby each stitch is hand-sewn on one by one and removed after dyeing to expose the beautifully abstract graphic pattern.
This lumbar cushion comes with a pre-filled kapok (natural, hypoallergenic tree fiber) insert.
Named after the Guinean village where their textiles are hand dyed and woven, Tensira was inspired by one of the founders’ mothers - Aïssatou Diallo, an artisanal dyer who for decades practiced her generational craft, creating stunning tie-&-dye masterpieces for women in her village to wear on special occasions.
Meticulously extracting the dyes from the indigo plant. Stitching the pattern with needle and thread, one stitch at a time. Repeatedly dyeing the fabric. And only then removing the stitches one by one to expose the exquisite patterns. Aïssatou’s creations and masterful craftsmanship passed on through generations by the artisans of the Fula community were pivotal in Hamidou (Diallo’s son) and Tuulia’s decision to establish a brand bridging West African artistry and Nordic design back in 2009.
With one foot in Guinea and another in Paris, with each one of their pieces Tensira continues to further the age-old dyeing and weaving techniques West Africa has become synonymous with. 100% handmade in Guinea - from hand spinning cotton grown in West Africa to dyeing the fabrics using plant-based dyes to weaving the fabric on traditional foot looms, Tensira has grown from only a few artisans to over a 200, majority of them women. An intricate process rooted in symbolism, dyeing and sewing, for example, is entirely completed by female artisans.
With over 3,600 hand stitches and 3000 yarns, each meter of Tensira fabric is truly a masterpiece of heritage, craftsmanship and sustainable production shining light on Guinean artistry in the most modern way possible.

HUIPIL CUSHIONS, BATIK & IKAT CUSHIONS, NAGA CUSHIONS, STRAPS & YOGA BAGS
Because these items are made with vintage textiles and may include leather accenting or hardware, we recommend that they are professionally dry cleaned when cleaning is required.
JASPE & JASPE BASURA
We recommend that cushions, rugs, throws and bed blankets from these collections are dry cleaned. This will ensure that colors retain their luster and fabric its shape.
TOTO & CHILE VERDE
Gently wash cushions, bed blankets and throws from these collections by hand, in cool water. Wrap the tassels in rubber bands before washing, use mild soap and line dry to maintain the piece's original shape.
Due to its smooth, non-porous surface made of glass, enamel is bacteria inhibiting and easy to clean. Clean with lime juice and baking soda using the smooth side of the cleaning sponge or a soft brush.
We recommend hand-washing these fabrics with mild soap. For tie & dye pieces, please wash them at 30°C and striped pieces at 40°C and lay flat to dry. Dry cleaning is recommended for kapok-filled cushion inserts.
Clean with a natural or mild cleanser (avoid harsh chemicals) and a soft cloth.
Vacuum regularly. Rotate every few months to even out wear, especially if the rug is located in a high traffic area. In case of a liquid spill, blot the spot using a white cloth to draw up the liquid; never rub a wet stain to prevent colors from bleeding. If further spot cleaning is required, entrust your rug to a professional dry cleaning service.
While in storage, do not place objects on top of the artwork. Keep handling to a minimum when during the hanging process and hold your print only from the sides. Fine art papers can scratch easily, so be very careful to avoid scraping anything across the surface of the print.
For cleaning we recommend using a clean, white, dry, soft lint-free cloth to gently wipe off dust and/or dirt. Use a white non-colored cloth will allow you to see when dust has been collected.
It is recommended that you never display giclee prints in direct sunlight and avoid high temperatures and humidity as it can cause yellowing.
