Faja Camera & Bag Strap - Modern Mosaic
What an effortless way to update your favorite tote or camera. Each of our high-impact, one-off camera-bag straps is handcrafted from a vintage faja (a traditional hand embroidered belt used to cinch a blouse) sourced from the Chichicastenango market in Guatemala. Accented with the softest leather and aged brass hardware, each includes two brass hooks - one for a bag and another for a camera.
Handwoven using traditional backstrap weaving technique, each faja takes 4-8 weeks to weave and a day to reconstruct as a strap.
Crafted from a textile originally handwoven for and worn by an indigenous woman, this strap is in vintage condition. Some minor imperfections are possible and are a nod to its cultural significance and history.
Handwoven on a backstrap loom, each shoulder strap is handcrafted from an original vintage faja. Integral to the traditional Guatemalan dress worn by Mayan women to this day, fajas vary in width, length and design from village to village.
Each carefully selected by the founders themselves, they are then given second life as they are converted into wearable accessories in Ciudad Quetzal by Otto, our leather maverick. Although he didn’t grow up in a family of artisans, Otto developed an immense appreciation for the leather craft early on. And it's safe to say that his passion shines through each piece he has meticulously crafted.

HUIPIL CUSHIONS, BATIK & IKAT CUSHIONS, XELA FLOOR POUFS, STRAPS & YOGA BAGS
Because these items are made with vintage textiles and may include leather accenting or hardware, we recommend that they are professionally dry cleaned when cleaning is required.
JASPE & JASPE BASURA
We recommend that cushions, rugs, throws and bed blankets from these collections are dry cleaned. This will ensure that colors retain their luster and fabric its shape.
TOTO & CHILE VERDE
Gently wash cushions, bed blankets and throws from these collections by hand, in cool water. Wrap the tassels in rubber bands before washing, use mild soap and line dry to maintain the piece's original shape.
Clean with a natural or mild cleanser (avoid harsh chemicals) and a soft cloth.
Vacuum regularly. Rotate every few months to even out wear, especially if the rug is located in a high traffic area. In case of a liquid spill, blot the spot using a white cloth to draw up the liquid; never rub a wet stain to prevent colors from bleeding. If further spot cleaning is required, entrust your rug to a professional dry cleaning service.
