Minimalist in appeal and maximalist in meaning, this monochrome Morilotong runner is the best of both worlds. Symbolizing duality of heaven and earth, this sacred and ceremonial textile represents completion of a spiritual cycle— a new birth, homecoming or housewarming.

Runner, wall art or simply art - no matter how you style it, this handmade textile is bound to add artistic value to any space or corner.

Hand dyed using traditional ikat technique and woven on a backstrap loom in Sulawesi, Indonesia, the fabric takes nearly 18-24 months to dye and weave.

Handwoven by the To Mangki Karataun weavers in the mountainous region of western Sulawesi, this ceremonial ikat textile is one of the two sacred textiles produced by the weavers’ communities there since the beginning of times.

To achieve the striking interplay of black and white, the textile is dyed using natural mud dyes and leaves. The threads are first tied, then soaked in tannin from a homolanthus sp tree and dyed in mud and then washed repeatedly in the river until they achieve that brilliant white hue.

Once the threads are ready, the textile is woven on a traditional backstrap loom - with the loom wrapped around the weaver’s back, the weaver controls the tension of the thread by leaning forward or back.

To bring you this textile, we’ve partnered with Threads of Life, an association working with over a 1000 women weavers on 12 islands across Indonesia. All made start-to-finish in a fair trade environment.

As all of our items are handcrafted using all-natural fibers and some plant-based dyes, we’ve put together a few words of advice how to best care for them so they brighten up your home for years to come.

Because these items are made with vintage textiles and may include leather accenting or hardware, we recommend that they are professionally dry cleaned when cleaning is required.

We recommend that cushions, rugs, throws and bed blankets from these collections are dry cleaned. This will ensure that colors retain their luster and fabric its shape.

Gently wash cushions, bed blankets and throws from these collections by hand, in cool water. Wrap the tassels in rubber bands before washing, use mild soap and line dry to maintain the piece's original shape.

Clean with a natural or mild cleanser (avoid harsh chemicals) and a soft cloth.

Vacuum regularly. Rotate every few months to even out wear, especially if the rug is located in a high traffic area. In case of a liquid spill, blot the spot using a white cloth to draw up the liquid; never rub a wet stain to prevent colors from bleeding. If further spot cleaning is required, entrust your rug to a professional dry cleaning service.
