Add just the right amount of extravagance to any space with this intricate lumbar pillow. A harmonious blend of structural design and brilliant hues, this vibrant vintage huipil (traditional Guatemalan blouse) lumbar truly champions the Mayan weaving tradition.

Handwoven using traditional backstrap weaving technique, each huipil takes 4-6 weeks to weave and 2-3 days to reconstruct as a pillow.

This lumbar cushion comes with a pre-filled cruelty-free down alternative insert and off-white recycled cotton backing.

Crafted from a textile originally handwoven for and worn by an indigenous woman, this cushion is in vintage condition. Some minor imperfections are possible and are a nod to its cultural significance and history.

Originally woven by the weavers of San Juan Cotzal on a backstrap loom, each cushion is handcrafted from a vintage huipil (traditional blouse worn by many Guatemalan women to this day).

A nod to the village it comes from and social status of the weaver, each huipil is rooted in allegory. Cotzal huipiles harmoniously blend Mayan symbolism and traditions that date back centuries. Largely a story of revival, they bring the wonders of nature to life in intricate patterns of the soil and trees, peaks that signify volcanoes, and the Quetzal bird (national bird of Guatemala).

Handwoven from incredibly soft cotton, our huipiles are given second life by Irma, seamstress and pattern-maker extraordinaire, in Ciudad Vieja. All made start-to-finish in a fair trade environment.

HUIPIL CUSHIONS, BATIK & IKAT CUSHIONS, XELA FLOOR POUFS, STRAPS & YOGA BAGS

Because these items are made with vintage textiles and may include leather accenting or hardware, we recommend that they are professionally dry cleaned when cleaning is required.

JASPE & JASPE BASURA

We recommend that cushions, rugs, throws and bed blankets from these collections are dry cleaned. This will ensure that colors retain their luster and fabric its shape.

TOTO & CHILE VERDE

Gently wash cushions, bed blankets and throws from these collections by hand, in cool water. Wrap the tassels in rubber bands before washing, use mild soap and line dry to maintain the piece's original shape.

PETRIFIED WOOD

Clean with a natural or mild cleanser (avoid harsh chemicals) and a soft cloth.

RUGS

Vacuum regularly. Rotate every few months to even out wear, especially if the rug is located in a high traffic area. In case of a liquid spill, blot the spot using a white cloth to draw up the liquid; never rub a wet stain to prevent colors from bleeding. If further spot cleaning is required, entrust your rug to a professional dry cleaning service.
